Why Commission a Quilt?
A quilt is a very special gift whether it is for yourself or someone else. There are special moments in everyone’s life that deserves a quilt. A quilt is an ongoing reminder for the recipient that they are loved and thought about often. I still have the quilt I received from my grandma for my high school graduation. It is even more special to me now that she has since passed. It is lovely reminder that I was special to her and it helps carry on those memories I have of her.
A quilt is often gifted for a special occasion such as the birth of a child, a graduation, wedding, special anniversary, retirement, and any other reason that you can think of.
A commissioned quilt is a unique, one of a kind quilt made just for the recipient.
Some questions to ask yourself as you are deciding on commissioning a quilt. Knowing the answers to these will help with decisions on quilt design, style, size, etc.
* What is the occasion for the quilt?
* What sort of quilt do you want to give them?
Decorative - wall hanging, table runner?
Functional - Baby quilt, couch/throw, bed quilt?
* What do you know about the recipients preferences?
Favourite colours/colour schemes?
Style - traditional, boho, art deco, modern?
